Aluminium occurs as a natural part of our environment. After oxygen and silicon aluminium is the most abundant element, comprising some 8 percent of the earth’s crust. Access to extensive sources of the raw material coupled with high recycling rates makes scarcity improbable.
The demand for aluminium is constantly increasing, especially where low relative density and high strength ratings are required. Aluminium is a very light metal with a specific density of 2.7 g/cm3.
Aluminium is particularly used in the transport, building and packaging markets. Other markets include electrical and mechanical industries, interior design, household, lightning, chemical and medical equipment.
